La Dama e la Luna

By Bud Koenemund

A 100 Word Story

For Lindsay

She moves like a dream, free of daylight cares; her dress billowing in the breeze. Shadow and light dance across her face, teasing her beauty as she twirls; hidden, then revealed in turn. She is perfection in the sun; but here she is more… she is magic. Almost angelic. Immortal in memory.
The lady and the moon are twins – one reflecting light, the other emanating it from within – and all the stars in infinite heaven envy them; wishing they could be nearer such grace.
She inspires both lunacy and peace at once. A solace found in the maelstrom of life.

Love

By Bud Koenemund

A 100 Word Exposition

Love begins as the most perfect, pure thing in the whole world. Maybe in the entire universe. But, loving someone – even purely – is imperfect. Being loved by someone is imperfect. Doubt creeps in, weaving through every thought and action; playing tricks on the mind. Its shadow gathers – unnoticed, at first – ‘til trust and affection are obscured in darkness; strangled in a shroud of gloom.
Once tarnished – its purity sullied – that perfection is lost forever. And, while love may be discovered again – may be tried and treasured – the heart knows its flaws. Still, despite contamination, our hearts long for love again.

You

By Bud Koenemund

A 100 Word Story

  “Whatcha thinkin’ about,” she asked.
  “You,” he said, quietly.
“Me?” she returned. “What about me?”
  “About kissing you,” he admitted.
“Well, then,” she mused, “why don’t you?”
“Because I wanted it to be perfect,” he said. “Not rushed.”
She stared at him, silently contemplating his words.
“But,” he continued, “I just realized that any place you are; any time we’re together, is perfect. And, I don’t want to waste it. Life is too short to not let you know how I feel.”
  “So,” she offered, “show me.”
His hand came up to cup her warm cheek as he leaned closer.
